BLOCKINTOSH DOCUMENTATION

From first launch
to your next world.

The practical guide to setting up and using the beta.

Check your Mac

Blockintosh requires an Apple Silicon Mac. The launcher and the game runtime have different macOS requirements.

ComponentRequirement
Native launchermacOS 15.0 or later
Gameplay with bundled GPTK 4macOS 26.4 or later
Gameplay with optional GPTK 3macOS 15.4 or later; separate runtime setup
Game runtimeRosetta
Game ownershipMicrosoft account with a valid Minecraft for Windows license

The optional GPTK 3 path is a different runtime setup. Changing the Metal setting alone does not lower the bundled GPTK 4 requirement. Compatibility on additional Macs and older supported systems remains under testing.

Install Blockintosh

  1. Check the requirements above and the published release notes.
  2. Use the Get Blockintosh button to find the current published download. If no download is listed, the public feed is not available yet.
  3. Extract the downloaded app, then move it to Applications before opening it.
  4. Follow the launcher’s setup prompts. The packaged build includes its backend and runtime; a source checkout is not needed.

Beta signing and distribution are still being prepared. If macOS blocks an app, verify its origin and published installation notes before proceeding. Do not disable system security protections to complete setup.

Sign in and choose a build

  1. Use your Microsoft Store account to verify ownership and acquire Minecraft through your own license.
  2. Choose Release or Preview, then select and download the build you want to use.
  3. Sign in to Xbox separately for online features. Check that the selected accounts match your intended setup.
  4. Choose your profile and launch Minecraft.

Minecraft is not included with Blockintosh. Keep account information and sign-in codes private.

Worlds, profiles, and backups

Confirm the active profile and edition before importing content or changing settings. Close Minecraft before archiving, restoring, or removing content.

Profile archives use .bomprofile files. Restored profiles start offline; reconnect the intended account before playing online. Keep a separate backup of important worlds when testing beta builds.

A missing profile selection should not require resetting everything. Use the profile chooser and recovery or restore options to locate your setup.

Import and manage add-ons

Use the launcher’s import flow or macOS Open With for supported Minecraft content files, including .mcworld, .mcpack, .mcaddon, .mctemplate, and .mcskin.

To remove a pack, close Minecraft and open Add-ons → Installed → select the pack → Remove Pack. Multi-pack add-ons are removed one component at a time. Removing a template does not delete worlds already created from it.

Launcher updates

Configured builds use Sparkle to check the published update feed. The website’s changelog reads that same feed, so the site and launcher share release notes.

Background automatic checks are currently disabled. Unconfigured builds cannot discover a new feed by themselves; install a configured build manually when it is published. Follow the in-app prompts when an update is available and let installation finish before reopening the launcher.

Troubleshooting

The game will not start

Confirm that your Mac meets the gameplay requirement, Rosetta is installed, a valid build is selected, and the intended profile is active. Review Activity for the actual failure before changing your setup. The launcher’s lower macOS requirement does not mean the bundled game renderer can run on that version.

Online features are unavailable

Check Microsoft Store ownership and Xbox sign-in separately. Refresh expired Xbox sign-in and confirm the intended account is selected. Realms and Marketplace are still being tested.

The game freezes or a beta behaves unexpectedly

Keep a backup of your worlds. Record the launcher version, Minecraft build, selected edition, macOS version, and the steps that caused the problem. Activity can help identify a failure. Avoid resetting profiles or accounts as a first troubleshooting step.

The website has no downloads or release notes

The public update feed may not have been published yet or may be temporarily unreachable. Try again later. An empty changelog does not mean your local worlds or profiles are missing.
